Wedding season may be drawing to a close but that doesn’t mean the planning stops for your upcoming nuptials. And who better to look to for inspiration for your food, decor, venues, outfits and everything in between, than the rich and famous?
From Meghan and Harry to everyone’s favourite Love Island couple, here’s our top 5 celebrity weddings you can steal ideas from. Don’t worry, we promise we won’t tell them.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle
There’s nothing we love more than a royal wedding. Held in 2018 at St George’s Chapel, Windsor, Meghan Markle married Prince Harry wearing a simple yet stunning gown designed by Clare Waight Keller. Followed by a reception in Frogmore House for a more intimate setting, which Meghan changed into a super stylish Stella McCartney gown for.
For many couples wanting to break away from tradition, this is the wedding you need to take inspiration from. Because if a royal wedding can include a gospel choir, the bride giving a speech and party favour bags filled with chocolate coins and a fridge magnet, you can choose your best guy-friend to be your Maid of Honour. After all, it is YOUR big day.
But if you really want to take inspo from the royal wedding, you can purchase the exact same Stella McCartney dress Meghan wore to the evening reception here.
Olivia Buckland and Alex Bowen
For some fun-loving couples, their wedding day is all about the party. Sure you love each other, but you also love having a good time with your closest friends and family. And that’s just what Love Island couple, Olivia Buckland and Alex Bowen did on their wedding day back in 2018.
Their celebrations took place in Essex and included everything from a helicopter ride and Rolls Royce, to a pair of trainers for the bride to ensure she remained on the dance floor all night long.
What we really love about this wedding is that it proved that; just because you and your partner are getting married, doesn’t mean you have to stop having fun. The bigger the party the better, is what we say!
Elton John and David Furnish
Elton John and David Furnish married back in 2014, just months after England and Wales finally made same-sex marriage legal. What made their wedding unique is that it was done in the comfort of their own home, surrounded by their closest friends and family .
You might think getting married at home means it’s a low key affair, but let’s just remember whose house it is we’re talking about here.
The theme for their day was red roses, in honour of the red roses they had for their civil ceremony back in 2005. But their focal point was the guest list, with the likes of the Beckhams and Adele joining the celebrations.
Your guest list can make or break the day, so think carefully before you invite every Tom, Dick and Harry you’ve crossed paths with.
You may have known someone for years but when was the last time you actually hung out with them in a social setting? Are you only inviting them because your mum has asked you? Are they known to get a bit vocal after a few chardonnays?
Another idea of theirs to steal is to have a personalised # so you and your partner can follow your guests photos once they’ve uploaded them to social media.
Michelle Keegan and Mark Wright
Corrie star, Michelle Keegan and TOWIE alumni, Mark Wright, got married in 2015 after a 2-year engagement.
The celebrations started in Michelle’s hometown of Bury, before they moved their guests closer to Mark’s neck of the woods, to Surrey for the evening do.
But that wasn’t all they did to ensure both sides of their guests felt at home, with Mark and his wedding party sticking firmly to their Essex roots by showing up in a flashy Hummer Limo. And they even served pie and mash to the Essex guests and fish and chips to the Northerners for the wedding breakfast, in a playful crossover.
What we love about this wedding, is that they had fun with the classic North/South divide jokes – proving that love (and a good knees up!) is all you need to close the gap.
Plus, due to their exclusive deal with Hello! magazine, all mobile phones were banned from the ceremony. Which we’re in full support of on your big day if you want to ensure all eyes remain on you.
Ciara and Russell Wilson
How could we not include the wedding of Grammy-award winning singer, Ciara, and American football quarter-back, Russell Wilson? Married at our very own Peckforton Castle.
Opting for a romantic English feel to the day, Ciara walked down the candlelit aisle of our chapel to a Harpist and took advantage of our exclusivity package that gave them private hire of the whole castle. Oh, and their ring bearer was an owl.
Their twist on tradition included dressing the bridal party in black full-length gowns and boy did the risk pay off!
So, don’t be afraid to shake things up a bit and add a bold colour that people don’t usually attach to weddings.
