Hotel and Hospitality Sustainability Statement
Boutique Hotel Group (BHG) is committed to promoting sustainability within the hospitality industry. We recognise the importance of protecting our environment, supporting our communities, and providing exceptional experiences for our guests while minimising our ecological footprint. Our sustainability initiatives focus on the following key areas:
1. Environmental Stewardship
- Energy Management: LED Bulbs used throughout hotel. Motion sensors in public areas. Time management on heating. Time monitored screen saving. Training for staff on the best practices.
- Water Conservation: Motion sensor taps in public areas. High-speed, high-pressure machine washers for minimal water consumption. Training for staff on best practices.
- Waste Reduction: Aim for zero waste through recycling, composting, and minimizing single-use plastics. Zero waste to landfill guarantee.
2. Community Engagement
- Local Partnerships: Collaborate with local businesses and artisans to source food, products, and services, promoting economic growth within the community. These include: Malpass Farm Butchers, Peckforton Dairy Farm, Bramble & Bloom, Lost Barn Coffee & many more.
- Cultural Preservation: Engage with local communities and assist the parish in local events. Maintain our building in line with Visit Britain standards & our Grade I listed status.
3. Sustainable Operations
- Staff Training: Provide ongoing training for staff on sustainability practices and their role in supporting the company’s environmental goals.
- Sourcing Practices: Prioritise suppliers who adhere to sustainable practices in their operations, including responsible sourcing of food, materials, and services.
- On Site Vegetation: Grow our own herbs and vegetables which are used within our menus daily.
- Wildlife: We have a dedicated Butterfly Garden situated within the castle grounds. This attracts and promotes the reproduction of Lave & Butterflies. We are committed to providing seed, nuts and feed to the wildlife in the surrounding forest. Our dedicated gardeners look after this daily.
- Robotic Lawnmowers: Automated robotic lawnmowers take care of most of our lawns. This minimises fuel emissions and allows for a more economical way of maintaining our grounds.
- Electric Car Scheme: We offer our employee’s a salary sacrifice car scheme which encourages our employee’s to use an electric car, helping to reduce emissions during commuting and of course in personal journeys.
- Refillable toiletries: We provide guests with premium bathroom toiletries in refillable containers. This reduces our hygiene product plastic waste by over 95%.
- Reusable Glass Bottled Water: We have committed to no longer pruchsing large plastic bottled water. Instead, we have replaced these with reusable glass bottles. We filter our water on site and reuse all over our glass bottles. This reducing our plastic waste by 730kg each year.
- Boiler solar: Our hot water boilers are powered by solar. Reducing our carbon footprint whilst maintaining hot water throughout Peckforton Castle.
- Smart Plugs: 70% of our appliances are linked to smart plug technology. This allows us to control our dormant appliances 24 hours a day, all year round, from anywhere in the world.
- Sustainability in Laundry: We allow guests to decline the option of fresh towels on shorter stays where they are not needed. This reduces our laundry load by up to 40%, in turn, allowing a reduction in our carbon footprint.
- EV Charging Ports: Available to guests and colleagues, making the ease of charging an electric vehicle possible, encouraging guests to adapt to this more economical mode of transportation.
4. Guest Engagement and Education
- Awareness: Our policies are available in house or online. Our staff are trained to acknowledge and educate guests on our commitment to a greener, more environmentally friendly workplace. Certain polices are displayed within rooms.
5. Monitoring and Reporting
- Monitoring: We regularly monitor our energy consumption, waste tonnage and economical operations to ensure we are always diversifying where physically and reasonably possible.
- Annual Reporting: The results of our commitment to being environmentally friendly are shared annually with our board of directors, management and team members. Results of our previous year are available upon request.
Conclusion
At BHG we are dedicated to playing an active role in creating a sustainable future for the hospitality industry. We believe that through conscious actions and collaborative efforts, we can provide enriching experiences for our guests while protecting the planet for generations to come.
